Frequently Asked Questions

  • Step 1: Foreigners/Travel Agents should fill out the application form online at the RAP Sikkim website.
  • Step 2: Upload a copy of a valid passport, visa, and a passport-size photo. The system will check the travelers' detail sheet, Passport, Visa, and verify the application. In case of any invalid documents, the application will be deemed invalid.
  • Step 3: After successful application submission, the administrative team reviews the provided information and documents for accuracy and compliance with regulatations.
  • Step 4: If the application is approved, the Restricted Area Permit is generated which is sent to the applicant via email.The Apllicant can download their permit on our webiste.
  • Step 5: The approved permit should be carried by the applicant during travel to the restricted area as it will be required for inspection by authorities at checkpoints or upon entry to the restricted zones.
  • Step 6: When a foreigner arrives, they must visit the checkpoint FRO office and show the printed digital permit. The FRO will stamp it, allowing the foreigner to enter Sikkim.

  • Foreigners (excluding people of Bhutanese origin) must fill out a form, attach required documents, and get approval to enter and stay in a Restricted Area of Sikkim.
  • Citizens of Nepal only need a valid identity card.
  • The RAP can also be obtained from various offices, including the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi, Indian Missions Abroad, and several offices in Sikkim and nearby areas.
  • The Nationals or people with origin of Pakistan,Afganistan,China, falling under prior reference category (PRC) require prior approval from Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi before applying for RAP.
  • People from Mayanmar and Nigeria need prior clearence from the Ministry of Home affairs or Home Department before entering sikkim

  • A foreigner desiring to visit Tsomgo Lake in Gangtok District and Lachen-Lachung-Yumthang-Thangu valley in mangan district needs to obtain a Protected Area Permit (PAP).

  • Foreigners can stay for up to 30 days. Extensions must be applied for at least 2 days before the permit expires.
  • Extensions beyond 30 days can be obtained from specific offices in Sikkim, but total stay should not exceed 60 days.
